The Popi Hagelios Memorial Philanthropy Award

Honoring a Legacy of Faith and Service

The Philoptochos Society of Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church proudly presents the Popi Hagelios Memorial Philanthropy Award, established in loving memory of Popi Hagelios—a devoted member whose life exemplified the true meaning of Christian philanthropy.

This annual award recognizes one deserving high school senior from a 2026 pledged family of Holy Cross who has demonstrated exceptional dedication to serving others and living out their Orthodox faith through volunteerism.

Award Details

  • Amount: $1,500
  • Eligibility: High school seniors (Class of 2026) from pledged Holy Cross families
  • Minimum GPA: 2.5 (weighted)
  • Application Deadline: March 29, 2026, at 9:00 PM

How to Apply

Applicants are invited to share their personal philanthropic story through a one-page essay and provide documentation of their community involvement.
A complete application includes:

  1. Completed application form
  2. High school transcript (including first semester of senior year)
  3. List of community service, extracurriculars, hobbies, and honors
  4. Two letters of recommendation (one from a philanthropic organization)
  5. Personal essay reflecting on your definition of philanthropy, your most meaningful experience, and how your Orthodox faith will guide your future acts of service
