Proistaminos

Father Michael Kallaur hails from Long Island New York, where he was born and raised as a member of the Orthodox Church. He attended Saint Vladimir’s Seminary and graduated Cum Laude in 1994. While serving as the manager of Saint Vladimir’s Octet, Father Michael visited Holy Cross for the first time in 1993. Three years later, he would begin working as the Pastoral Assistant to Father John Chakos at Holy Cross, where he would remain from 1996 until 2004. In 1998, Father Michael was ordained to the diaconate, and the next year in 1999, he was ordained as a priest. From 2004-2012 he served as the priest at Presentation of Christ Church (Ypapanti) in East Pittsburgh, until October 2012, when he returned to Holy Cross to serve as Proistaminos. He is happily married to his wife, Presbytera Eleni Kallaur and has three boys, Constantine, Apostoli, and Luke.

Father Daniel Korba received his Masters of Divinity from Saint Vladimir’s Seminary in 1979, where he studied under Father Alexander Schmemann, among others. In that same year, he was ordained to the Holy Priesthood in on July 22. Between 1979 and 1988, he served in two parishes under the Orthodox Church of America (OCA), and in October 1988, he began serving as an assistant priest at Holy Cross. He continues to serve at Holy Cross at present. He is married with three adult children and one grandchild.

A graduate of the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox School of Theology class of 1984, Dn. Photios (Frank) Dickos was ordained in 2004 and has served at Holy Cross Church since that time, along with his wife Adrienne. Their two sons, Dimitrios and Makarios (Dimitri and Marco) are both involved in careers in finance.

Deacon Frank is happily retired, having served for thirty years as Lead Software Engineer at Confluence, a global leader in investment management data automation.

Fr. John, a native of Pittsburgh, graduated from Mt. Lebanon High School in 1959. In 1963, he received his B.A. degree in English from Western Kentucky University. After receiving his teacher’s certification from Duquesne University in 1964, he taught high school English at the Pittsburgh Public
Schools for two years.

In 1965, he married his wife Alexandra. Shortly after their marriage, they joined the Peace Corps in 1966, living and working in the slums of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. In 1971, Fr. John enrolled at the Holy Cross Seminary in Boston, graduating with a Masters of Divinity degree and receiving his ordination to the Greek Orthodox priesthood in 1974.

Since that time, he has served parishes in the Dioceses of Chicago and Pittsburgh. In 1981 he received a Masters of Religious Education from Loyola University of Chicago.

Fr. John served the Holy Cross Greek Orthodox Church in Mt. Lebanon, PA for 31 years until his retirement in 2011. In addition to his pastoral ministry, Fr. John has served as an OCMC board member for thirty-seven years, and two terms as its president, during which time OCMC became a Pan-Orthodox agency of the Assembly of Orthodox Bishops in America.

Since his retirement in 2011, Fr. John and Presbytera Alexandra have made a deeper commitment to the Mayan communities in the remote highlands of Guatemala, spending a few months of every year there. As an OCMC Mission Specialist and field representative for Guatemala, Fr. John oversees the training of future indigenous clergy, the activities of long-term OCMC missionaries and mission teams, the building and renovation of village churches, and the construction and staffing of the Fr. Andres Giron Medical/Dental Clinic.

Fr. John and Alexandra are the parents of four children and their spouses, as well as the adoring grandparents to 15 grandchildren. When not working in Guatemala, they live in the city of Pittsburgh and serve in their home parish of Holy Cross.
